Blood pressure is the force that moves blood through our circulatory system. It is an important force because  oxygen and nutrients  would not be pushed around our circulatory system to nourish tissues and organs without blood pressure. Blood pressure is also vital because it delivers white blood cells and antibodies for immunity, and hormones such as  insulin . Just as important as providing oxygen and nutrients, the fresh blood that gets delivered is able to pick up the toxic waste products of metabolism, including the carbon dioxide we exhale with every breath, and the toxins we clear through our liver and kidneys. Blood itself carries a number of other properties, including its temperature. It also carries one of our defenses against tissue damage, the clotting platelets that prevent blood loss following injury. But what exactly is it that causes blood to exert a pressure in our arteries? Part of the answer is simple - the heart creates blood pressure by forci
Asthma  is an eminently controllable illness. Indeed, for most sufferers, control is so effective that it amounts to a virtual  cure . But  asthma  is not  curable  in the same way as, say, a bacterial pneumonia; it never entirely goes away. Also, no one  cure would ever suffice. Although most people who have an  asthma  attack get help and get well, people  can and do die from  asthma  attacks. The shocking fact is that  asthma  attacks  kill  three people every day. ...  You can  cut your risk by taking your  asthma  medicines as prescribed, even if  you  feel well. It's difficult to say for sure why someone gets asthma, but we do know you’re more likely to develop asthma if there’s a history of asthma, eczema or allergies in your family. Or if you already have eczema or allergies (for example ha
"Diabetes Can Be Cured" with Koharr Therapy Food has a direct effect on blood glucose. Some foods raise blood glucose more than others. An important part of managing diabetes is knowing what and how much to eat, and following an eating plan that fits your lifestyle while helping to control blood glucose. The 3 main nutrients found in foods are carbohydrates (carbs), proteins and fats. Carbohydrates (carbs) Carbs are the starches, sugar and fiber in foods such as grains, fruits, vegetables, milk products and sweets. They raise blood glucose faster and higher than other nutrients in foods: proteins and fats. Knowing what foods contain carbs and the amount of carbs in a meal is helpful for blood glucose control. Choosing carbs from healthy sources like vegetables, fruits and whole grains (high fiber) are preferred over carbs from sources with added sugars, fat and salt. Proteins Proteins are a necessary part of a balanced diet and can keep you from feel

"You are what you eat." You know your diet impacts your health. You've probably heard this over and over again. But have you ever wondered  how  exactly it improves your health? How does what you put into your body prevent certain life-threatening illnesses like heart disease, stroke, diabetes and osteoporosis? Healthy eating prevents obesity - the number one nutritional reason for disease.   Obesity is a major risk factor for many conditions, like type 2 diabetes, osteoporosis, stroke, heart disease and more. Eating foods loaded with sugar, fats and calories can add extra weight to your body, weakening your bones and making your organs work harder. This automatically puts you at a higher risk for health problems down the road. Certain nutrients affect certain parts of the body. Without enough calcium, your bones can become unhealthy, brittle and weak. This makes you more susceptible to osteoporosis. Therefore, a diet that is high in calcium can help
Facts are the air of scientists. Without them you can never fly. Here are some lesser known thoughts Dr. Linus Pauling has shared,  Science is the search for truth, that is the effort to understand the world: it involves the rejection of bias, of dogma, of revelation, but not the rejection of morality. Science cannot be stopped.  Man  will gather  knowledge  no matter what the consequences – and we cannot predict what they will be.  Science will go on — whether we are  pessimistic , or are  optimistic , as I am. I know that great, interesting, and valuable discoveries can be made and will be made… But  I know also that still more interesting discoveries will be made that I have not the  imagination  to describe — and I am awaiting them, full of curiosity and enthusiasm. I believe that you can, by taking some simple and inexpensive measures, lead a longer life and extend your years of well-being. My most important recommendation is that you take vitamins every day in optim
The ancient Indian medical system, also known as Ayurveda, is based on ancient writings that rely on a “natural” and holistic approach to physical and mental health. Ayurvedic medicine is one of the world’s oldest medical systems and remains one of India’s traditional health care systems. Ayurvedic treatment combines products (mainly derived from plants, but may also include animal, metal, and mineral), diet, exercise, and lifestyle. Results from a 2013  clinical trial   compared two Ayurvedic formulations of plant extracts against the   natural product   glucosamine   sulfate and the drug celecoxib in 440 people with knee osteoarthritis. All four products provided similar reductions in pain and improvements in function. A preliminary and small NCCIH-funded 2011 pilot study with 43 people found that conventional and Ayurvedic treatments for rheumatoid arthritis were similarly effective. The conventional drug tested was methotrexate and the Ayurvedic treatment included 40 her
