Minerals are important for our body to stay healthy. Our body uses minerals for many different functions, including building bones, making hormones and heartbeat regulation.
There are two types of minerals: macro minerals and trace minerals. Macro minerals are minerals our body needs in larger amounts. They are calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, sodium, potassium, chloride and sulfur. Human body needs just small amounts of trace minerals or micro minerals. Trace minerals include iron, manganese, copper, iodine, zinc, cobalt, fluoride and selenium.
The best way to get the minerals human body needs is by eating a wide variety of foods. In some cases, doctors may recommend a mineral supplement.
Minerals are vital to our existence because they are the building blocks for our body. They make up muscles, tissues, and bones. They also are important components of a number of life-supporting systems, such as hormones, oxygen transport, and enzyme systems.
