Minerals are essential for bone development and growth
More than 65 per cent of our bones, by weight are made-up by minerals whereas; calcium and magnesium are most important minerals for bone development and growth. In case of fractured bone, healing requires a large amount of bio-available supply of macro-minerals and traces minerals, as well as adequate amount of protein and selected vitamins. If you think that due to mineral deficiency your bones are getting weaker, so you can take the mineral supplement as per the prescription of doctor or medical experts. Some of the essential minerals for bone development and growth are;
1. Magnesium:
Magnesium plays a very important role in bone development and it also enhances the bone’s strength, and maintains the bone density and cardiovascular health by directing the calcium and other minerals towards bone. Apart from bone development, growth and proper functioning magnesium is also essential for metabolism, muscle relaxation and numerous enzymatic reactions of human body. The main sources of magnesium are seeds, nuts, beans, fish, spinach and broccoli.
2. Calcium:
After magnesium, calcium is the most important mineral in bone as it contributes in its structure and strength of bones but it is also vital element for nerve transmission and muscle contraction. The main sources of calcium are dairy products, broccoli and nuts. Deficit of calcium can cause some specific conditions such as hypertension, osteoporosis and elevated cholesterol rickets.
3. Trace minerals:
Apart from macro minerals, trace minerals are also important for promoting bone development and growth, but our body needs it in fewer amounts in comparison of calcium and magnesium. Some of the important trace minerals are; phosphorus, strontium, vanadium, zinc, copper, silicon and more.Trace minerals also improves the health of bone and maintain the balance between bone restoration and formation.
4. Other nutrients:
Apart from minerals, certain amount of protein and vitamins are also essential to heal bone fractures and to promote the healthy growth of bone. In normal protein and minerals are important to build a block for bone growth however; vitamins act as catalysts in biochemical reactions of human body.
